Scan files for malware in real-time identifies and blocks threats that could compromise the integrity, availability, or confidentiality of systems and data. It continuously scans all files that are received, downloaded, copied, or modified. When a threat is detected, it is either cleaned or blocked from running and the user is prompted for action.

On-upload scanning enables the antimalware engine to immediately check and scan any blob that is uploaded to your storage account. Unlike real-time scanning, on-upload scanning doesn’t provide context around the files. That means that files attempting to modify system locations or programs like antivirus software might not get identified as malicious by the antimalware engine, since the file path isn’t visible. It is recommended to use both real-time and on-upload scanning together for maximum protection.

On-demand scanning is a powerful tool for reducing the amount of time that your files are sitting on the disks or being downloaded to your devices. It provides the ability to scan any file whenever you want – for peace of mind, or in the event of a suspected malware attack. It is available through next generation antivirus software such as CrowdStrike, and is coming soon to macOS. It can also be triggered from an Event Grid System Topic or Service Bus Queue to inform downstream consumers of clean files.
